Crowninthians go top!
Crowninthians go top as we reach the half way mark, Scouting for Goals continue to stutter.
After a fantastic 3-2 victory over Crowninthians FC in week 4, Scouting for Goals’ season has stuttered somewhat with 2 losses and a draw. And it was the second loss, against The Vaders last night, which saw them drop from 1st to 3rd, with both The Vaders and Crowninthians leapfrogging them. They didn’t go down without a fight mind and were narrow 5-4 losers after fighting back from a couple of goals down. Robbie Walters returned to The Vaders line up and scored 3 beauties to fly back to the top of the scoring chart and to put The Vaders back on track, having missed his goal threat the past 2 weeks. Geraint Dyment got 3 of his own for SFG, but they were not enough to earn his team a share of the points. Scouting for Goals will look to get back to winning ways next week when they face lowly Sports Centre United.
Game 2 saw Crowninthians FC face Sports Centre United and they never really looked troubled as they ran out 7-1 winners against the youngsters. It was the perfect game for Crowninthians with title rivals The Vaders and Scouting for Goals facing off in game 1, which opened up the path for them to go top of the league. Sports Centre United put up a great effort as usual, but there was no stopping the free flowing samba boys as Jack and Morgan Thomas both netted 3 times each, and probably should have scored a few more but for the heroics in goal of Cal Williams, who made some terrific saves. SCU seem to get better each week as they adjust to the format and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get a couple of wins in the second half of the season. Crowninthians double-pointer with Olden But Golden in 2 weeks now looks like a huge match.
Game 3 saw The Rebel Alliance pick up their first point of the season, although they’ll be disappointed not to have collected all 3. In a very even game against the Park Arabs, The Rebels took a 3-1 lead, and when Park Arabs’ Jamie Preece saw yellow for constant swearing, it give The Rebels a great chance to see out the game. But the man down proved to be to the Arabs’ advantage as it give Lewis Kingdon more space to run with the ball and the Arabs were soon level again. With parity restored in goals and numbers, the Park Arabs took the lead and looked on course to have snatched the win, but Richard Tomlinson toe-poked the ball into the bottom corner with a couple of minutes to go, to end the match 4-4. The Rebels will hope to have this strong a team every week from here on in after struggling to raise a team since the start, and with a double-pointer next week with Olden But Golden it is the perfect time to start picking up points. The Park Arabs will look to get revenge for their week 1 beating off Crowninthians.
The final game saw Olden But Golden remain unbeaten as they cruised past Borussia Maestegladbach 4-1. Never really getting out of 3rd gear, the OBG boys (men) controlled from start to finish and kept a tight defence once again. BMG were plucky and kept trying to break through until the end, but the OGB resistence was as strong as ever and Matt Charnock made some impressive stops in goal. Evan Pryce did get through with another screamer but it was to be the only goal of the evening for BMG. Luke Davies put in another good shift in goal for BMG and picked up another Man of the Match, while Jonathan Jones’ 2 goals saw him pick up the award for Olden But Golden. BMG will need to start winning regularly from here on if they are to mount any title challenge, while OBG have 2 massive weeks coming up as they make up their games in hand with back-to-back double-pointers which could see them go top.
We’ve now reached the half way point and everything is running smoothly, hope you’re all still enjoying and thanks once again for all the effort!
