Here we go again!

There’s just over a week to go until we kick off the 4th year of the Maesteg Summer League. It’s fantastic to yet again have the support from the local teams to enable us to run this excellent competition. We’re certain that this year will be as great as the previous years, with more goals, last ditch tackles and no doubt the odd sin bin!

So with all that in mind who do you think can with this years Maesteg Summer League?

It’s been said that you can’t win anything with kids, but we know how wrong Hansen’s statement was back in 1995!! So could newcomers, the Young Arabs, make an instant impact with their young squad?

Or will the newly named Crowneroon, which is brimming with experienced players, still prove to be too strong for the competition? Can Ben Fish beat his impressive 30 goal tally from last year?

Regulars like Scouting for Goals are back again for another season. Last year saw them struggle compared to the first two years, so will they be able to put an impressive start together to get them up the table early on and gain some momentum?

The Arabs return in strength. They were very unlucky last year, and challenged the Crowninthians most of the way, but injuries and lack of depth in the squad stopped them reaching their full potential.

With the Euro’s feeling more like 5 years ago not just last summer, maybe some of the teams will get more consistent numbers this season to allow them to push for the 1st place slot. Don’t forget lads there is a very generous prize for the winners!

The Vaders are back again for another stab at the competition. With a bit more strength this year, they are hoping to pull off a better season than last year, and with some transfers in and out it could make for an interesting season for them.

Borussia Teeth return with a fantastic new name, Jimmy Sevilla, and will hope to build on the good impact they made last year, proving very difficult to beat with their solid defence and clinical finishing.

FC Snorkel will no doubt surprise everyone again, with danger man Smucker ready to score more goals, he was smashing them in with his one touch turns last year, but will he get marked out this year or continue his impressive goals per game tally. With Luke bossing midfield with an engine that never seems to slow down, one thing you can be sure of when Snorkel play is loads of energy and aggression.

Talking of aggression, the Honey Badger return with their team topped up with rugby lads. Often underestimated, the Badgers have put a few teams away in the last few seasons with their mean defence, including goalkeeper Rhodri “Twm” Thomas and “Stupid” Steve Williams in front of him, and aggressive striker, Angry Lloyd Jenkins ☺. You’re certain to see Fisher running from deep too creating some space and the question on everyone’s lips is will Edgar make a return to keep us all entertained with his vocal performances.

So, with 8 days left until KO We cannot wait! Hope to see you there!! Lets go…
