League kicks off successfully
Our first match week kicked off last night and it turned out to be a great success.
After starting slightly late due to novice goal post erectors, the atmosphere picked up quickly and there was a good buzz around the pitch. Most teams showed up early to get a glimpse of the opposition, and Scouting for Goals made an early impression, beating Sports Centre United 6-2 in the opening fixture.
Sports Centre United did well and only trailed 2-1 for most of the match, but tiredness crept in after only having one sub available, and Scouting for Goals made them pay in the last 10 minutes.
The games were a lot tougher and faster than expected and everyone was feeling the pace at some point, so the 3 subs could prove valuable throughout the season.
After game 1, anticipation was building for what everyone thought would be a tight battle between Crowninthians FC and Park Arabs. After 10 minutes it was clear Crowninthians FC were in no mood to play around as they tore through the Park Arabs defence and scored goals at will.
Discipline went out the window for Park Arabs and their eagerness to stamp their authority in tackles was playing right into Crowninthians FC’s hands as their fast passing and clinical finishing proved too much, ending the game as 10-1 winners. The Park Arabs will need to play more as a team in coming weeks to show just how good they are and Crowninthians FC have definitely laid down the marker for the rest of the league.
The third and final game of the night saw The Vaders face off with Borussia Maestegladbach in what seemed like a very evenly matched fixture. The Vaders superior defence proved vital as they ran out 5-1 victors despite handfuls of missed chances for both sides. BMG will look to bounce back next week when they line up against Scouting for Goals in what looks like another 50/50 game.
The Vaders will play their estranged brothers The Rebel Alliance, who will be making their first appearance after no fixture this week. Hopefully there will be an eighth team entered before the next round of games so all teams will play every week.

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who came last night to make it such a success. The players did themselves proud with a good atmosphere on and off the field and there was a good crowd watching too. Now we know how to put the posts up, we’ll run on time next week 🙂 good luck to everyone for the rest of the season!
