Week 2 Round Up

So, in to week two we went last night and this time we got the posts up in time for the 6pm kick off.

Up first were the Park Arabs v Sports Centre United, both looking for their first points after opening their season with defeats last week. The game was quite a tight affair in the first half, but after not learning from last week’s experience, Sports Centre United once again suffered from lack of substitutes and succumbed to a heavy defeat in the second half, the game finishing 13-2. Lewis Kingdon put down a marker on the top scorer chart by getting on the score sheet 4 times, adding to his single from last week.

Up next were Scouting for Goals and Borussia Maestegladbach, which turned out to be the tightest game of the league so far. Finishing just 2-1 to SFG, it was evenly contested and once again showed up a possible lack of firepower in the BMG team. Scouting for Goals are proving stiff opposition and they currently boast the meanest defence of the teams to have played twice. There was a slight mishap for BMG too, arriving with one too many players, meaning team captain/manager Gareth ‘Hambone’ Hanbury had to sit out, much to his dismay. He took one for the team and will expect something in return next week from his team mates.

The third and final game of the evening pitched The Vaders v The Rebel Alliance, who were playing their first game after missing out last week. The Vaders started the game brightly, racing to a 4-0 lead. A change was made for the Rebels and after a good spell either side of half time they trailed just 6-4. It was then that The Vaders team work and organisation took over, with Robbie Walters running riot with 6 goals. With most of the Rebels having never met each other previously, never mind played together, they lost their shape and were outplayed over most of the park as tiredness and disorder took over. They will get better but this was maybe too early to play The Vaders, who shot to the top of the table and will be facing Crowninthians next week, in what already looks like a clash between two of the favourites.

With the good news that our 8th and final team, Olden But Golden, have signed up, we will start from next week with a full lineup. Thanks again to all the players and referee. See you next week!
